The Big News: Jay got a new job! Wooohoooo!!!! He starts the 18th and we are all so excited. The only crappy part is that he’ll be commuting to Baltimore. But he deserves this opportunity and I know he’ll do well. And he’s back to working on stuff that he likes so I’m sure he’ll have lots of geek fun.

Last night my mom and I went to a scrapbooking class at Michael’s. Lucky for us, we were the only ones signed up! That was pretty cool because we got the undivided attention of the teacher AND there was a woman watching because she is taking over the scrapbooking classes next month… so we essentially had two teachers all to ourselves. The only bad part (and I use the word bad loosely) was that the actual teacher didn’t have our sense of ’simplistic’ style. Not like we have a ’style’ since we haven’t even scrapbooked anything but we like things simple and clean. She had way too many stickers and doo-hickeys and rubber stamps out the wahzoo (her original love is rubberstamping). The pages were way too busy and I felt like it was more a collage than a scrapbook. I just want a book with nice pictures, some color and maybe some journaling. That’s it.

But we did get introduced to the sizzix and the Cricut. They are both so expensive but I do like the Cricut. A lot. I don’t even know what I’d use it for but I want it. Not too enthralled by the stamps though. I mean, they’re cute… but it just seems like you’d have to do a LOT of stamping to make it worth the money. Oh, and I also like the stickers… but then again, I’ve always been a sticker whore. Tomorrow we’re going back to Michael’s since they’ll be doing a demo of scrapbooking tools; I have a feeling we’ll be there all afternoon.

So I’m hoping this weekend will be a scrapbooking weekend. My baby boy is growing quickly and I need to get started on his album. I just realized that tomorrow he will be 5 months old — FIVE MONTHS! Some quick updates on his progress:

He still loves his bathtime although the other day we moved him out of the kitchen sink and into the regular bathtub where Jay helps give him a bath. He still loves it although he gets water/soap in his eyes a lot more than in the sink since he isn’t reclined. But he still splashes like crazy and stops when the water smacks him in the face. He’s also doing pretty well on the solids. We just moved from rice cereal to oatmeal the other day and he absolutely loves sweet potatoes. He “yumm”s before he chomps down on the spoon and as soon as he’s done he opens his mouth and lets out this grunt like, “Hey, feed me!”

He has pretty much mastered the art of rolling over on his back but hasn’t quite gotten the hang of back-to-front yet; the other day Jay said he found him sleeping in his crib on his side. He still loves his Bumbo although he scoots around in it so we don’t put him on the table anymore; his feedings are now done with him in his booster seat (still debating buying a high chair).

He seems to want to move around a lot but I really don’t want to get him an activity center since I read that those things cause developmental delays (since the baby can’t see his feet, he doesn’t make the connection that he’s causing the movement). I guess only time will tell…
